Happy Saturday, Central Coast anglers! Here's your fishing report for March 21st, 2026. Beautiful spring weather is making this a perfect weekend to get out on the water!

๐Ÿž๏ธ Lake Fishing Reports

Lake Nacimiento ๐ŸŒŸ

  • Temp: ~68ยฐF, Clear water, 55% capacity
  • Spring spawn is PEAK! Big bass are shallow and aggressive
  • White Bass: โœ… EXCELLENT! Windy conditions bringing out top action, limits common
  • Spotted Bass: Packed on main lake points โ€” crushing spinnerbaits and swimbaits
  • Best Lures: Bladed jigs (white/chartreuse), Hula grubs, drop shots, swimbaits
  • Crappie: Good โ€” small swimbaits near submerged brush and rocky pockets
  • Tip: Fish secondary points and pockets at dawn โ€” biggest females feeding before heat of day!

Santa Margarita Lake

  • Temp: Low 50s, stained visibility, near full capacity
  • Largemouth Bass: โœ… GOOD! Prespawn fish staged on rocky points and creek channels
  • Best Baits: Jigs, craw tubes, Senkos, drop-shots worked slowly
  • Crappie: Active on primary points with bright-colored jigs (pink/orange)
  • Catfish: Excellent โ€” catfish to 15 lbs reported on garlic shrimp and chicken liver!
  • Tip: Focus on weedlines and rocky transitions โ€” fish packing on these areas for spawn

Lopez Lake

  • Temp: High 50s, clearing after recent storms
  • Bass: Good โ€” shad-colored crankbaits and jerkbaits at first light
  • Panfish: Bluegill and crappie near marina on small Rapalas and white jigs
  • Tip: Hit shallow at dawn, then target deeper water (20+ ft) mid-day

San Antonio Lake

  • Temp: ~56ยฐF, ~50% capacity, slight stain
  • Trout: Fair โ€” PowerBait and nightcrawlers near deep water inflows
  • Catfish: โœ… Good! 2-4 lbs on garlic shrimp at cove backs
  • Bass: Picking up nicely โ€” try shallow crankbaits in 10-15 ft
  • Tip: Night fishing for catfish with chicken liver producing well

๐ŸŒŠ Ocean Fishing: Morro Bay

Saturday ocean fishing is solid with spring conditions!

  • Lingcod: Good โ€” fish to 30+ lbs being landed
  • Rockfish: โœ… Excellent action across all species
  • Vermilion Rockfish: Strong numbers
  • Copper Rockfish: Good action
  • Bocaccio: Active in deeper waters (150+ ft)

Current Bait Report:

  • ๐ŸŸ Mackerel schooling in the bay โ€” excellent live bait!
  • ๐ŸŸ Smelt abundant near shores
  • ๐ŸŸ Squid strips โ€” top performer for lingcod

Best Ocean Lures:

  • 7" Squid strips
  • 7" Hammer swimbaits
  • Work 100-150 ft depth near rocky structure

Water Temp: ~53-55ยฐF at Ft. McAllister โ€” warming into optimal spring range!

Weekend Tip: Saturday morning trips are ideal โ€” lighter winds expected before afternoon breezes pick up.
