🎣 SLO County Fishing Report — May 5, 2026

Tuesday grind day! Still plenty of time to wet a line after work.

🌊 Ocean & Bay Fishing (Morro Bay)

Conditions excellent — summer-like temps warming the water.

  • Rockfish & Lingcod: Outstanding. Reefs holding solid. Charter boats reporting limit catches.
  • Halibut: Good action. Sandy bottom from Morro Rock to Cayucos producing. Drifting with live bait.
  • Salmon: Check CDFW for season updates — should be opening soon.
  • Surfperch: Solid from pier and beach. Best low light = best bite.
  • Mackerel & Sardines: Ball tight to kelp paddies. Perfect for beginners!

💡 Tip: Midday sun = slower fishing. Dawn/dusk windows = gold.

🏊 Freshwater Lakes

Lake Nacimiento ("Lake Naci")

  • Bass: Good. Spawn wrapping up but still aggressive on topwater early.
  • Trout: Fair. Stocked fish settling in. Deep trolling effective.
  • Catfish: Heating up after dark. Chicken liver, crawfish = go-to.

Lake San Antonio

  • Bass: Good. School fish on main lake humps.
  • Trout: Fair. Fly anglers doing well with nymphs.
  • Panfish: Excellent. Bluegill on worms non-stop — family friendly!

📅 Week Ahead
