Good morning, Central Coast anglers! Here's your fishing report for April 2nd, 2026. Spring fishing is in full swing across the region!

๐Ÿž๏ธ Lake Fishing Reports

Lake Nacimiento ๐ŸŒŸ

  • Temp: ~72ยฐF, Clear water, 51% capacity
  • Peak spring fishing! Water temps climbing โ€” fish actively feeding
  • White Bass: โœ… EXCELLENT! Big schools roaming โ€” white/bladed jigs performing great
  • Spotted Bass: Great on main lake points and creek channels โ€” reaction baits crushing it
  • Best Lures: Bladed jigs, hula grubs, spooks, drop shots, pin-tail trailers
  • Crappie: Good โ€” 2-3 inch swimbaits near deep docks and rocky points
  • Bass: Quality fish being caught on shallow cranks and texas-rigged plastics
  • Tip: Early morning bite (6-9 AM) is hottest โ€” target wind-blown points at dawn!

Santa Margarita Lake

  • Temp: Mid 50s, clear visibility, near full capacity
  • Largemouth Bass: โœ… GOOD BIT! Fish holding in 15-25 ft โ€” drop-shotting productive
  • Best Baits: Senkos, drop-shots, Neko rigs, finesse worms in dark colors
  • Crappie: Active on main lake points โ€” small jigs in bright colors
  • Catfish: Excellent โ€” chicken liver and garlic shrimp producing big catches
  • Trout: Fair โ€” PowerBait and small spinners near the dam

Lopez Lake

  • Temp: Mid 50s, stained water, moderate level
  • Bass: Good โ€” shad-colored cranks and jerkbaits on secondary points
  • Panfish: Bluegill and crappie near marina on small Rapalas
  • Tip: Drop-shotting in 25-35 ft for bigger bass

San Antonio Lake

  • Temp: ~58ยฐF, ~44% capacity, slightly stained
  • Trout: Fair โ€” chartreuse PowerBait near the narrows
  • Catfish: โœ… Good! 2-5 lbs on chicken liver and garlic shrimp
  • Bass: Improving โ€” shallow cranks and spinnerbaits in coves

๐ŸŒŠ Ocean Fishing: Morro Bay

April is prime ocean fishing season! Current conditions:

  • Lingcod: โœ… Good โ€” fish up to 30+ lbs being caught
  • Rockfish: EXCELLENT! Rockfish season open โ€” great variety available
  • Vermilion Rockfish: Strong showing
  • Copper Rockfish: Good numbers
  • Bocaccio: Active in 100-150 ft water
  • Salmon: Picking up โ€” early kings showing up!

Current Bait Report:

  • ๐ŸŸ Mackerel schooling in the bay
  • ๐ŸŸ Smelt near jetty and shoreline
  • ๐ŸŸ Squid โ€” strips doing very well!

Best Ocean Lures Right Now:

  • 7" Squid strips
  • Big Hammer swimbaits
  • Krocodiles at 100-150 ft
  • Rebel Deep Craws

Water Temp: ~55ยฐF at Ft. McAllister โ€” warming nicely for spring species!
