Good morning, Central Coast anglers! Here's your latest fishing report for April 5th, 2026.

๐Ÿž๏ธ Lake Fishing Reports

Lake Nacimiento ๐ŸŒŸ

  • Temp: ~68ยฐF, Clear water, 55% capacity
  • Spring bite is ON FIRE! Warming temps have all species fully activated
  • White Bass: โœ… EXCELLENT! Peak spawning activity - aggressive on surface lures
  • Spotted Bass: Active on rocky points, main lake flats, and creek channels
  • Best Lures: Bladed jigs (white/silver), spinnerbaits, topwater, drop shots
  • Crappie: Good - big slabs hitting 2-3 inch swimbaits near submerged timber
  • Tip: Hit main lake points at dawn - the morning bite is unreal right now!

Santa Margarita Lake

  • Temp: Low 50s, crystal clear, near full capacity
  • Largemouth Bass: โœ… GOOD BIT! Fish moving shallow for pre-spawn
  • Best Baits: Senkos, wacky rigs, drop-shots, jerkbaits
  • Crappie: Good on primary points - try bright-colored jigs (pink/orange)
  • Catfish: Excellent - chicken liver and garlic shrimp doing the job
  • Tip: Fish ultra-slow in the clear water - finesse is key!

Lopez Lake

  • Temp: Mid-50s, good visibility
  • Bass: Good - shad-colored crankbaits, jerkbaits working near points
  • Panfish: Bluegill and crappie active near marina on small Rapalas
  • Trout: Improving - try Panther Martin spinners near dam

San Antonio Lake

  • Temp: ~56ยฐF, ~45% full, slightly stained
  • Trout: Fair - chartreuse/rainbow PowerBait near inlet
  • Catfish: โœ… Good! 2-5 lbs on garlic shrimp and chicken liver
  • Bass: Warming up - try shallow crankbaits in 10-15 ft

๐ŸŒŠ Ocean Fishing: Morro Bay

ROCKFISH SEASON IS HERE! ๐ŸŽ‰

The long-awaited rockfish bite is finally underway:

  • Lingcod: Excellent! Fish up to 30+ lbs being landed
  • Rockfish: โœ… EXCELLENT ACTION! Reds, Coppers, Canary, Vermilion all biting
  • Black Perch & Barred Surfperch: Good inshore action
  • Water Temp: ~52ยฐF at Ft. McAllister

Current Bait Report:

  • ๐ŸŸ Mackerel - live bait performing well
  • ๐ŸŸ Smelt - excellent for surfperch
  • ๐ŸŸ Squid - classic rockfish bait, very effective

Best Lures & Tactics:

  • Metal jigs tipped with squid
  • 7" squid strips for lingcod
  • Big Hammer swimbaits
  • Target 100-150 ft depth with structure

Shore Fishing:

  • Surfperch and barred surfperch from piers and beaches
  • Low tide is best - focus on sandy areas with kelp
