SLO County Fishing Report — April 21, 2026

Morro Bay Ocean Fishing 🎣

What's Biting: Rockfish season is red hot! Recent fish counts from Virg's Landing show excellent action with limits being reported consistently.

Top Catches This Week:

  • Blue Rockfish — Most abundant, great table fare
  • Vermilion Rockfish — Strong numbers, beautiful fish
  • Yellowtail Rockfish — Good showing, especially on 3/4 day trips
  • Gopher Rockfish — Plenty action
  • Lingcod — Up to 9 per trip, highlight: 11 lb monster caught April 9th!

Best Gear: Metal jigs tipped with squid. Focus on rocky structure, wrecks, and reefs. Morning trips have been producing best.

Boat Available: Endeavor, Rita G, and Fiesta all running.


SLO County Lakes

Santa Margarita Lake — Bass and crappie fishing picking up. Senkos andKeitechs working well around rocky points. Crappie active in afternoon near where fresh water enters.

Lake Nacimiento — Striper fishing heating up. Troll deep diving lures early morning.

Whale Rock Reservoir — Trout planted regularly. Catfish getting active.

San Antonio Lake — Good for trout, especially morning hours. Bass improving.
